Shift in Tesla's California Marketing

Tesla is no longer using the term 'Autopilot' to describe the self-driving capabilities of its vehicles in California, a move that avoids a 30-day sales suspension in the state imposed by regulators.

DMV's Regulatory Action

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced that Tesla has taken corrective action following a December investigation, which determined that the EV manufacturer's marketing violated state law.

This marketing misled customers into believing Tesla's cars could drive autonomously without supervision.

Details of the Complaint

The DMV complaint centers on written marketing materials for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features, which Tesla began publishing in May 2021.

These materials later prompted Tesla to append '(Supervised)' to its descriptions.
