Upcoming Changes to Warzone Availability
Activision has confirmed plans to discontinue support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles in Call of Duty Warzone. The decision takes effect after season 6 of Call of Duty Black Ops 7 concludes later this year. Players relying on these older systems will no longer be able to access the game without moving to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S and X hardware.
The transition begins with the removal of Warzone from the respective storefronts on June 4th. After that date, new downloads will not be possible on the affected consoles. Existing installations may remain functional for a limited period, but ongoing access is not guaranteed beyond the stated deadlines.
Timeline of Support Withdrawal
Further restrictions follow on June 25th when the in-game store is disabled for PS4 and Xbox One users. This step prevents purchases and updates through the older platforms. Once Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 season 1 starts, the game itself will cease to function on those consoles entirely.
The schedule leaves little room for adjustment. Users must complete any necessary hardware upgrades before the final cutoff to maintain uninterrupted play. No extensions or exceptions have been indicated by Activision at this stage.
Impact on the Player Base
The move aligns with a broader industry shift toward current-generation hardware. However, it arrives at a point when many players still operate on previous-generation equipment. Those affected face a direct choice between purchasing new consoles or losing access to Warzone.
Activision has not released detailed migration assistance or compensation details. The focus remains on the technical requirements for continued participation in the title. Observers note that similar support reductions have occurred in other live-service games as platforms evolve.
