New Hardware Pricing Structure
Starlink has implemented a $10 monthly rental fee for its hardware, marking a departure from its previous approach of selling equipment outright for a single payment. Residential customers now see no upfront hardware cost on ordering pages, with the fee applied instead as an ongoing charge similar to those used by traditional cable and telecom providers.
The hardware package consists of a satellite terminal for signal reception and a router for home network distribution. This rental arrangement adds to the cost of internet service without replacing it, creating a recurring expense layered on top of monthly subscriptions.
Updated Service Rates and Tiers
Alongside the hardware change, Starlink has increased its internet service prices by $5 to $10 per month depending on the plan. Current rates stand at $55 monthly for 100Mbps speeds, $85 for 200Mbps, and $130 for the Max tier, which supports speeds up to 400Mbps.
These adjustments reflect broader pricing shifts across the satellite internet sector. The hardware rental applies uniformly regardless of selected speed tier, maintaining separation between equipment access and data service.
Installation and Additional Options
Professional installation remains available for a one-time fee of $199. Subscribers to the Max plan receive this service without extra charge, providing an alternative path for those seeking setup assistance rather than self-installation.
The overall model aligns Starlink more closely with established broadband providers that have long relied on rental fees for customer equipment. This structure may influence long-term ownership considerations for users evaluating total expenses over time.
