Raid and Summons in Ongoing Investigation
French law enforcement authorities conducted a raid on X's Paris office today and issued a summons for Elon Musk to appear for questioning. This action forms part of an investigation into illegal content on the platform, which has been ongoing for a year.
The Paris public prosecutor’s office stated that the probe was recently expanded due to the Grok chatbot's dissemination of Holocaust-denial claims and sexually explicit deepfakes.
Europol and Local Support
Europol, assisting the French authorities, indicated that the investigation covers a range of suspected criminal offenses related to the platform's functioning and use, including the spread of illegal content and other online criminal activities.
Europol's cybercrime center deployed an analyst to Paris to support national authorities, while the French Gendarmerie’s cybercrime unit is also contributing to the effort.
Questioning of Key Figures
French authorities intend to question Elon Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino, who resigned last year amid controversy surrounding Grok's praise of Hitler.
Prosecutors summoned Musk and Yaccarino for interviews in April 2026, with these sessions being characterized as voluntary.
