Rivals Turned Teammates in New Campaign
Garrett Nussmeier of LSU and Carson Beck of Georgia, both contending for SEC and national titles, have joined forces in POWERADE's Commitment Takes More campaign. These college quarterbacks, previously competitors on the field, now represent the beverage brand together. POWERADE, a staple for athletes, extends beyond refreshment to embody greater dedication.
Being a Division I athlete is not easy. Sure, it looks cool, but there’s a lot of work, a lot of mental stress that comes with this, and a lot of guys can’t make it, because it’s too hard. It’s about discipline, it’s about being able to push through things when things get tough, it’s about being able to be on time to everything that you’re supposed to be on time for.
Culture of Discipline at LSU
Nussmeier credits LSU coach Brian Kelly for fostering a program culture centered on accountability. This mindset promotes success not only in games but also in the weight room, classroom, campus, and daily life. Such rigor underscores the realities of elite college sports.
That starts with the culture our coach [Brian Kelly] pushes onto our program. He makes us take responsibility for our actions, and he keeps us in a mindset that wants to succeed in a way by doing things the correct way – not just on the field, but also in the building, in the classroom, on campus and everywhere that we go.
POWERADE's Role in Athlete Performance
As LSU's primary sponsor, POWERADE aligns closely with Nussmeier's routine. He has consumed it since childhood, relying on it daily for practice and training. In Louisiana's demanding climate, consistent hydration prevents performance dips, enabling sustained effort on the field.
I’m extremely blessed to have this opportunity. POWERADE’s a drink I’ve been drinking since I was little, it’s a sponsor of LSU, I drink it every day at practice and every day in the building. So, to have that responsibility of representing such a powerful brand, it means a lot to me.
Upcoming Season Openers
LSU kicks off its season Sunday night against USC in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Beck and Georgia begin theirs versus Clemson in Atlanta. These matchups set the stage for their championship pursuits.
