New Surface Devices Arrive
Microsoft has two new Surface devices arriving later this year, both powered by Nvidia's RTX Spark chips. The Surface Laptop Ultra and Surface RTX Spark Dev Box were previewed at the company's Build conference, each using the same chip but in distinct configurations.
Design and Build of the Surface Laptop Ultra
The Surface Laptop Ultra looks and feels very much like a 16-inch MacBook Pro. There are no transforming hinges, detachable displays, or any other tricks. This is a clamshell laptop built with performance in mind. Microsoft has opted for a 15-inch mini LED panel, which operates at up to 2,000 nits. The device prioritizes straightforward construction and hardware capability over convertible features.
Differentiated Use of RTX Spark
While both devices share the RTX Spark chip, they utilize Nvidia's technology in different ways. The Surface Laptop Ultra emphasizes sustained performance in a traditional laptop form factor. Details on the Dev Box suggest alternative applications suited to its development-oriented positioning. The approach reflects Microsoft's intent to address varied user needs within the Surface lineup.
